Buy it: Miss Malarkey Doesn’t Live in Room 10

Miss Malarkey Doesn’t Live in Room 10 (By Judy Finchler) – Where do teachers live? In this story, one little boy thinks he has the answer – at school! “Miss Malarkey Doesn’t Live in Room 10″ is a very funny story, with wonderful illustrations that make my six-year-old daughter laugh every time we read it. In the story, the boy thinks that his first-grade teacher lives in her classroom, eats dinner in the cafeteria and brushes her teeth at the drinking fountain. But then Miss Malarkey moves into the boy’s apartment building. Now the boy has to convince his classmates that their teacher doesn’t actually live in Room 10. A cute story told from a kid’s point of view.

Buy it: Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten (By Joseph Slate) – It’s the first day of kindergarten and everyone is getting ready. While the teacher, Miss Bindergarten, sets up the classroom, the students are waking up, getting dressed, eating breakfast and packing their school bags. In this fun, rhyming book for students starting kindergarten, the students are all animals that start with each letter of the alphabet. The story shows young children what they can expect when they get ready for school and during the school day. My kindergartner loves it.

Ella the Elegant Elephant (By Carmela & Steven D’Amico) – Ella is going to be starting at a new school in a new town and she’s worried. But she’s excited when her grandma sends her a “good luck hat,” which is big and orange with flowers on it. Ella wears the hat on the first day and stands out from her classmates, who make fun of the hat and nickname her Ella the Elegant Elephant. But Ella’s mother insists that things will get better in time. One day the school bully is falling off the school wall, when Ella decides to help. As they fall off the wall together, Ella’s hat turns into a big parachute that brings them down for a safe landing. The next day at school, everyone is wearing a big hat like Ella’s to express their love and appreciation for her. Things had gotten better like her mother said.
