Buy it: Pie in the Sky

Pie in the Sky (By Lois Ehlert) – A child and father are waiting for something to grow on what the father calls “a pie tree” in their yard. As the seasons pass, the child finally sees what’s growing on the tree – cherries! They pick the cherries and explain step-by-step how they make a cherry pie. When the pie is ready, the father and child eat it and the child says it’s the best pie ever. My daughter loves this book because of the wonderful illustrations that look like they should have a texture. Every time we read it, my daughter runs her hands over the pictures just to see if she can feel them. Each page of the book features a short poem as well, and there are directions and a recipe for the pie made in the story.
