Brave Irene (By William Steig) – Irene’s mother has made a beautiful gown for the duchess, but is too sick to deliver it for the ball that evening. So Irene helps her mother into bed and says that she will set out through the snowy evening to deliver the gown. But the strong wind soon blows the gown from Irene’s hands. She decides to continue walking to the palace, so she can tell the duchess what happened. But as she walks Irene finds herself lost in a heavy snowstorm at night. After facing many obstacles, Irene bravely pushes on until she finds the palace. And as she arrives she sees the duchess’s gown stuck to a tree. The duchess is thrilled to have her gown and everyone commends Irene for her bravery.
